Featuring data policy and governance expert Jenifer Sunrise Winter, professor in the School of Communication and Information and co-director of the Pacific Information and Communication Technology for Development Collaborative .

This talk explores Responsible AI with a focus on the hardware ecosystem, highlighting the current discourse gap, where RAI principles primarily address data and algorithms, neglecting the crucial role of AI hardware. It will introduce core RAI concepts—like fairness, accountability, transparency, privacy/security, sustainability—and how they relate to hardware, as well as examining challenges, regulatory approaches, and opportunities for integrating RAI into hardware systems, touching on governance mechanisms and the concept of "Sovereign AI."
