Healing Together: The Journey From Trauma to Wellness
March 7, 6:30pm - 8:30pmMānoa Campus, Art Building Auditorium (ART132)
Trauma has profound and lasting effects. Adverse childhood events correlate to a range of negative health outcomes, from asthma to obesity, and have costs across society. Less known is that toxic stress can be effectively treated, both clinically and in the community. Join us to discuss how we can work together to journey from trauma to wellness. About the Speakers Family physician Josh Green has worked to address community and patient challenges from a clinic in Ka鈥榰 to the statehouse. As governor, he created the Office of Wellness and Resilience to review policies across government to make them more effective in responding to trauma. He has also had to guide the state through a gauntlet of system shocks, from the ongoing housing crisis to Covid and the Maui fires. Pediatrician Nadine Burke-Harris is the former Surgeon General of California. Trained at UC Davis, Harvard, and Stanford, Dr. Burke-Harris is an expert on screening for childhood trauma and developing clinical and community treatments for toxic stress. She is the author of the award-winning The Deepest Well: Healing the Long-Term Effects of Childhood Adversity, which Paul Tough calls 鈥渁 heartbreaking, world-shaking, revolutionary book.鈥 Event Sponsors: Governor鈥檚 Office of Wellness and Resilience, John A.
