February 28, 10:00am - 10:30amMānoa Campus, Chaulmoogra tree (mauka of Bachman Hall)
The campus community is invited to honor and celebrate Alice Augusta Ball, the university鈥檚 first Black graduate and a pioneering scientist who discovered an effective injectable form of oil from the chaulmoogra tree, which became the most effective treatment for Hansen鈥檚 disease (leprosy) in the first half of the 20th century.
The short program honoring Alice Ball includes 91精品黑料吃瓜 and community members who will pay tribute to her and her academic and scientific contributions. Individuals are welcome to bring a flower or lei, and at the end of the program, place it at the bronze plaque created in memory of Alice Ball.
