February 11, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Virtual

Join the Voice of the Sea YouTube watch party, where you will have a chance to talk directly to the students and experts at the Kumuola Marine Science Education Center! In this episode, we are on the East side of Hawai驶i Island as part of our series on loko i驶a (traditional Hawaiian fishponds). We visit the Kumuola Marine Science Education Center to learn about efforts to rehabilitate the Wai膩hole and Kapalaho loko i驶a 鈥攍ocated within the 鈥榠li k奴pono of Honohononui, the ahupua鈥榓 of Wai膩kea, and the moku of Hilo. Kumuola is working with haum膩na (students) as well as field and industry experts to maximize the health of the Native Hawaiian mullet, 驶ama驶ama, in their loko i驶a. We talk-story about the community involved with Kumuola, the history of the loko i驶a under their care (Wai膩hole and Kapalaho), the work involved in rehabilitation, and the research that is aiding their process.
