Waikiki Parc Features David Harada
January 31, 2017 - February 3, 2017Parc Promenade Gallery, Waikiki Parc Hotel, 2233 Helumoa Road, Waikiki
David Harada芒鈧劉s sculptures are highlighted as part of an expanded arts partnership of the University of Hawai芒鈧渋 at M脛聛noa (91精品黑料吃瓜M), the Halekulani and its sister hotel, the Waikiki Parc.
Born and raised in Mililani, Hawai芒鈧渋, David Harada received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in glass from the Department of Art + Art History, 91精品黑料吃瓜M, in 2016. Glass inspires him because of its transparency, refractivity, and quality to be perceived as a liquid or a solid. His current work includes sculptures made of laminated glass that are ground and highly polished.
Harada states, 芒鈧揗emories are stratified by thoughts and emotions. They may appear permanent but like gemstones they erode and chip away over time. Each newly exposed facet reveals a layer of hidden history, providing new perspectives on the whole.芒鈧
Harada芒鈧劉s recent group exhibitions include the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce芒鈧劉s 37th annual "Commitment to Excellence" (2015), Honolulu Museum of Art School; "Vision: 2016 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition," The Art Gallery, 91精品黑料吃瓜M; "Viscosity" (2015), Commons Gallery, 91精品黑料吃瓜M; and "Where Dreams Unfold" (2013), Koa Gallery, Kapi芒鈧渙lani Community College, Honolulu.
Guitarist Christopher Hopper will provide music at the opening reception in this series of up-and-coming young artists芒鈧劉 exhibitions at the Waikiki Parc. Hopper currently is working toward a Bachelor of Music degree in performance at the Department of Music, 91精品黑料吃瓜M. He has studied with guitar virtuosos Carlos Barbosa Lima, Benjamin Verdery, John Dearman, Andrew York, and the Brazilian Guitar Duo芒鈧劉s Douglas Lora and Jo脙拢o Luiz.
