Ala Wai Watershed Partnership - Sustainability and Resilience
May 12, 12:00pm - 1:00pmWaikiki Aquarium, 2777 Kalakaua Ave Honolulu, HI 96815
The Ala Wai Watershed, which includes Waikiki, is the most densely populated watershed in Hawaii, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the island芒鈧劉s population (approximately 200,000 residents; or roughly 14 percent of the state芒鈧劉s population). Waikiki generates approximately eight percent of Hawaii's gross domestic product, seven percent of the state's employment, and nine percent of state tax revenues. Known natural hazards and risks, as well as environmental issues in the watershed through Waikiki are of great concern to state, county, and neighborhood stakeholders. The seminar will highlight the Ala Wai Watershed Partnership which has formed to comprehensively address community resilience including education, ecosystems, climate, governance, and financial institutions. The University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program is acting in the role of coordinator for the Ala Wai Watershed Partnership.
