Black History Month 2016: "Holding Fast The Dream"

African Americans have lived, thrived, and achieved in the islands of Hawaii for more than two centuries, but little is known about their remarkable contributions. HOLDING FAST THE DREAM: HAWAII'S AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE tells the story beginning with a freed slave in the early 1800s to Hawaii's native son Barack Obama and his island roots and ties. Principal researcher, Dr. Miles M. Jackson, Dean Emeritus, University of Hawaii, will be present. Also featured will be a presentation by representatives of the National Panhellenic Council, Inc. - also known as the Divine Nine, an national organization comprised of the nine historically African American sororities and fraternities.
