The Office of External Affairs presents this public seminar by Dr. Božo Cerar, Ambassador of Slovenia to the United States
A career diplomat, Ambassador Dr. Cerar previously served as Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Canada (1997–2001), Poland (2004) and as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to NATO (2007–2011). During his career, he was also Head of the Department for Europe and North America (1991–1992), Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in London (1992–1996), Head of Minister’s Office (1996–1997), Head of the Department for Multilateral Relations (2001) and Head of the NATO Department (2002–2003). From 2005 to 2006 as well as in 2012 and 2013 he served as a State Secretary/Deputy Foreign Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. He presented his credentials to President Obama in September 2013 and has since served as Ambassador of Slovenia to the U.S. In 2014, He became Slovenia’s ambassador to Mexico with residency in Washington. He is also accredited as a permanent observer to the Organization of American States and CARICOM. Ambassador Dr. Cerar holds a BA in Law, MA in Diplomatic Studies and PhD in International Law. He is the author of numerous articles and books on international relations and diplomacy. In addition to Slovenian, he speaks English, French, Russian, Serbian and basic Greek.
