The Center for Korean Studies spring 2016 film series opens with the 2008 feature "Sunny" (ë‹˜ì€ ë¨¼ê³³ì—), directed by Yi Chun-ik. Synopsis: Sun-i’s only pastime is singing in front of the neighbors. She visits her husband in the army every month solely due to the endless nagging of her mother-in-law, who cares only for her precious only son, Sang-gil. However, Sang-gil never says a sweet word. One day, Sun-i visits him as usual but is informed that Sang-gil has voluntarily left for the Vietnam War. Clueless as to where her husband may be, Sun-i decides to go to Vietnam. She joins the consolatory band as a vocalist with the stage name “Sunny†and enters the battlefield full of flame and gunfire.
